Rich Way (Gay)

Song: Just Like a Pill - Pink

Rich and myself are known to our mutual friends as 'Ginger & Gay'. Yes this sounds like a better version of Will & Grace and there are similarities between us and the American sit-com duo, the difference is that we don't have to rely on canned laughter.

'Ginger' comes from an unfortunate episode when I dyed my hair carrot red under the mis-guided description of mahogany brown from the side of a bottle of Recital. Gay comes from the fact that Rich is a homosexual. Whereas Ginger has now expired, Rich is still Gay.

I have been Rich's fag hag for a good four years at least - but then I moved to Australia and he has replaced me with many fag hags. It's OK Gay - I do forgive you. Needless to say that this song reminds me of the many nights we spent in G.A.Y. bar, with me dancing provocatively, safely in the knowledge that no man in this sausage fest would look once.

Whenever I hear this song it reminds me of the trouble we used to get into both at work and in play - love you Gay. Get your arse to Australia! :o)

Julia Hilton (The Judge)

Song: Land of Make Believe - Bucks Fizz

Judge - you know this!

When Julia isn't going missing in Hamburg, she's throwing some serious shapes to 80's classics in Auntie Ruth's. Her rug cutting puts John Travolta to shame, let alone the complex her air guitar has given Jon Bon Jovi - the guy is a failure by contrast.

Jules comes everywhere with me, with the exception of Australia of course. She let me down in that area. But on most family occasions, she has become my date, my partner in crime and official side kick. The family know her like she's part of it and I love her like a sister! She has stuck by me through thick and thin and always shows her support when I most need it.

So as much as it embarasses me when I crank up the volume on my ipod when this song comes on, the look on the dude's face sitting next to me on the E50 on the way into work is so worth it when I remember who it reminds me of. I will never forget that Christmas Eve in the Black Bottom club when this little number came on - Jules I was so impressed with your lyrical knowledge - poetry in motion mate!

Aja Scanlon

Song: All These Things That I've Done - The Killers

This song reminds me of one of my bezzie mates - Miss Scanlon. Primary school teacher and geek extraordinaire, Scanlon and I have shared many a magic moment.

The things I find funniest about Aja is her ability to take the piss out of anyone and everyone with such precision. To the point where I find myself doing impressions of her doing impressions in a bid to compete on the funny'o'meter. I always come in average.

This song reminds me of a night when I had just split up with a long term boyfriend and Aja invited me out with her and the girls for a night in the Swan to cheer me up. Oblivious to the meat marketness of this Stockwell haunt, I went along to drink Snakey Bs and dance to cheesey indie music and had an awesome night! I wasn't familiar with this song at the time and remember Aja and her mates going nuts - "I got soul but I'm not a soldier, I got soul but I'm not a soldier". It's one of my fave songs now and always makes me think of Frasier (Aja). Love you Scanlon - hope the trans fats and canned meats are still good :o)

Song Memories

It dawned on me today that I am consistently boring my friends with "this song reminds me of so'n'so when we did 'x' in wherever, so I thought 'what a great idea it would be to document them and save people the ear ache!?' Whether it's because we shared a moment listening to the music together, I was listening to it a lot at the time of meeting someone or because the lead singer is a dead ringer, there's a reason for it and I thought might be interested to know why!

So to begin, I am going to start by listing a few of the ones that spring easily to mind - the ones I know exactly what to ask the DJ for when I am with someone! If I haven't listed someone it's because I either need to hear the song again for it to register or we need to make new memories! Either way, the list will get longer! This blog is dedicated to my mates :o)
